Get to know Pinchly

Seven lessons, and Pinchly will work for you.

Each one takes about a minute. Start anywhere — they do not have to be in order. You can also open these lessons in the app: tap your initials, top right, then Handbook.

Capture your first Pinch

A person, a place, and a thing.

Pinches help us remember the places and things that matter to the people we care about. You can organize them how you want with backups, categories, tags, and other helpful information.

In the app · two ways in

Capture with text

  1. Tap the Pinch button, in the middle of the bar.
  2. Choose who it is for, then type what they like and where they get it.
  3. Tap Save Pinch.

Capture with voice

  1. Hold the Pinch button.
  2. Slide up, then let go.
  3. Say it — the person, the thing, and the place.
  4. It opens filled in. Tap Save Pinch.

Retrieve your first Pinch

Whatever you can remember.

Search or ask out loud for whatever you can remember—a person, a place, a thing, a category, a tag—anything works.

Retrieve with text

  1. Tap Search Pinchly, at the top of Home.
  2. Type whatever you remember. Mocha is enough.
  3. Tap the Pinch to open it.

Retrieve with voice

  1. Hold the Pinch button.
  2. Slide up, then let go.
  3. Ask — “What does Nicholas like at the Corner Coffee Shop?”
  4. It comes right back. Tap the Pinch to open it.

Add another person

Pinches for everyone.

Add someone else you care about—a family member, friend, neighbor, or colleague. Invite them to connect, and you can share Pinches about yourselves with one another.

In the app · invite them to connect

  1. Tap New, top left, then Person.
  2. Tap Invite to connect, and send the link by text, by email, or through any app on your phone.
  3. When they accept, they join your People wearing the orange ring.

Each link is for one person. Tap Invite to connect again for the next.

Already added them privately? Invite them anyway, then merge the two — see how.

Optional · add someone privately

Pinches for them are only visible to you. Nothing is sent, and nobody is notified.

One at a time

Tap New, then Person, then Private Person, and add their name.

Several at once

Tap New, then Person, then From your contacts. Select everyone you want, and add them all at once.

Set a reminder

Never miss an occasion.

Set reminders to, well—remember—an occasion. You can attach Pinches you’ve filed for easy gifting.

In the app

  1. Tap New, then Reminder.
  2. Choose who it is for, the occasion and the day, then tap Add Reminder.
  3. When Pinchly asks, tap Turn on, so it reaches you before the day.

Tapped Not now when Pinchly asked about notifications? Tap your initials, top right, then Notifications, then Push Notifications.

Connect with someone

See what they choose to share.

Send an invite to connect. Once accepted, each of you can choose which Pinches about yourself to share. Connected people carry an orange ring highlighting their avatar.

In the app · connect, then merge

Invite to connect

  1. Tap New, then Person.
  2. Tap Invite to connect, and send the link by text, by email, or through any app.
  3. When they accept, their avatar wears the orange ring.

Already had them as a private person? Once they accept, merge the two — Merge profiles.

Merge profiles

Private and connected, one profile. Merging folds a private person and a connected person into one profile. Your Pinches for them remain private and are only visible to you.

Why you would: if you pinched for someone before they joined, they arrive a second time when they accept your invite — once private, once connected. Merge the two, and everything you remember about them lives on one page.

  1. Open the private person, tap ⋯, then Merge with a Connection.
  2. Pick their connected profile.
  3. Tap Merge.
  • Your Pinches stay privateEverything you pinch for someone is visible only to you—forever. Merging does not change that, now or later.
  • It happens only on your sideMerging brings their Pinches together into one view on your account. Nothing changes on theirs.
  • Circles come alongAny Circle you put the private person in now includes the connected person, so they will see what you share with it. Nothing else about your sharing changes.
  • You can undo mergesChanged your mind? Unmerge at any time—your Pinches go back to a separate private person.

Starting from their connected profile? Tap ⋯, then Merge a Private Person.

Send a Bump

Ask, don’t guess.

A Bump asks a connection to finish a Pinch about something that matters to them. The answer is theirs. If they choose to share, it will show in their connected (or merged) profile.

In the app

  1. Tap New, then Bump.
  2. Choose who, and what you would like them to add.
  3. Tap Send Bump. The answer is theirs to give.

Connect with someone to unlock Bumps.

The Pinchly Promise

Your privacy matters.

Your Pinches are yours alone. Nothing is shared unless you say so — and when you do, you decide exactly what, and with whom.

In the app

A private person is yours alone. Nothing is sent, and nobody is notified about what you pinch for them.

The full experience

Turn these on, and Pinchly can do everything.

Pinchly asks for each of these in the moment it helps. Say yes, and the whole app works the way it is meant to.

Notifications

Reminders arrive before the day, not after it. Bumps and new connections land as they happen.

When Pinchly asks, just after you save a reminder, tap Turn on.

Tapped Not now when Pinchly asked about notifications? Tap your initials, top right, then Notifications, then Push Notifications.

Microphone & speech

Speak a Pinch instead of typing it, and ask for one back out loud. Speech is turned into text by your phone; Pinchly never keeps the audio.

The first time you talk to Pinchly, tap Allow for the microphone and for speech recognition.

Said no to the microphone? In your phone’s Settings, open Pinchly and turn on Microphone and Speech Recognition.

Location

Nearby places come first when you add one to a Pinch. Without it, results are whatever is popular nationally.

The first time you type a place, tap Use my location, then Allow While Using App.

Tapped Not now when Pinchly offered places near you? Tap your initials, then Privacy & sharing, and turn on Use My Location.

Contacts

Add the people you know without retyping them. Your address book is not uploaded; only the names you choose are saved, as private people.

Tap New, then Person, then From your contacts, and tap Continue to Contacts.

Turned contacts access off? Tap Open Settings on that same screen.

Your calendar

Your reminders land in the Calendar app and refresh on their own. Pinchly never asks for this one — it is yours to add.

Tap your initials, then Integrations, then Add to Apple Calendar, and confirm Subscribe.

That is the whole of it.
